MESSAGE FROM NICOLE

Hi Everyone

We are not out of the woods yet, but it's great to see the extreme weather conditions abating.

There are thousands of homes locally without power in parts of Sherwood, Corinda and Oxley, as well as around Brisbane.

Several traffic lights remain out on Oxley Rd including at Clewley St, Lynne Grove Ave and Cliveden Ave, Corinda. Please be careful when out driving.

There is a huge amount of tree damage and localised flooding across roads and parks in all the usual locations and it is being affected by the tides.

Oxley Creek flooded and there are several streets in Oxley and Corinda underwater. Please stay out of them for now. If your street flooded, Council will do a kerbside collection for household goods, not including green waste. Contact my office on t: 3403 8605 or email tennyson.ward@bcc,qld.gov.au or contact the Council call centre on 3403 8888 to register for kerbside pick-up.

The Brisbane River has not flooded which is good news for most of the ward. However, rivers upstream are flooding in Ipswich so please remain vigilant.

The Lord Mayor has refused to:

  • put out community food waste bins;
  • confirm if wheelie bin collections are back on schedule; or
  • undertake a kerbside green waste collection—instead he’s starting a “Ute Army” asking residents to help one another. Green waste tipping will be free when the tip at Willawong reopens (no advice when). He must be saving your pennies for his next overseas Olympic junket. I am sorry I have been asking for days for a Council green waste pick up and the answer is no. If you can help please let my office know.

A huge thank you to the local churches and Tzu Chi who have again stepped up to help our community. Sherwood Police have been magnificent, especially as they have been without power themselves. Details on where to go for power, company, help and evacuation centres for overnight stays are noted below.

We are here to help. Stay safe, Regards Nicole.

FLOODING UPDATE

At this stage, the predicted rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred is causing minor flooding in parts of Oxley, Corinda, Rocklea and Sherwood associated with Oxley Creek. 317mm has fallen over the past 24 hours at Corinda, the highest in the ward. A minor flood level of 1.71m at the Brisbane River City Gauge occurred this morning, and Oxley Creek peaked at 5.18m.

The Brisbane River at the city gauge is currently below the minor flood level. The Brisbane River at Brisbane City gauge may reach near the minor flood level (1.70 m) Tuesday morning on the high tide.

Oxley Creek has plateaued for the moment, but is rising and falling with the high tide. You can track Oxley Creek heights here.

Keep track of the weather and flooding information on the BOM  website here.
